Born in 1977, Éric Rakoto trained under the designer Razanajao Bakovelo (his mother) and the visual artist Richard Razafindrakoto. He was among the first generation of young people from Ankadifotsy to study at workshops led by the late Richard Razafindrakoto. Rakoto works with basic pigments such as earth red, which resonates with his creative approach for simplicity in his work. As Rakoto explains: "People often tend to think that the meaning of a contemporary artwork is hard to comprehend. That is why I like to communicate this idea of simplicity."
Rakoto had his first exhibition Ancetre et Vision in 1999 and has continued to exhibit his work both in Madagascar and Europe.
